AMBR’s Letter Urging Gov. Newsom to Publish SB-54 Regulations

In 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a groundbreaking law aimed at tackling plastic pollution and expanding recycling infrastructure by setting ambitious packaging targets. The legislation set critical targets, including ensuring that all packaging is recyclable or compostable by 2032, reducing plastic packaging by 25% within a decade, and requiring a 65% recycling rate for single-use plastics within the same period. While more detailed regulations were expected to be released by March 8, 2025, industry stakeholders have been pushing for a delay.

AMBR urges Governor Newsom to stay on schedule, emphasizing the urgent need to address the growing plastics crisis.
